Grunting

Download WAV file (216 kB)

This grunting was recorded with a microphone in front of the mouth of a premature baby girl with respiratory distress 7 hours after birth.

The respirosonogram provides a visual representation of the content of the respiratory sound recording. Time is shown on the horizontal and frequency on the vertical axis. Sound intensity is indicated on a color scale, ranging from red (loud) over yellow and light green (medium) to dark green and gray (low). The breathing signal from Respitrace shows the rib cage [RC] movement plotted at the top and the abdominal [AB] movement at the bottom (inspiration = up, expiration = down). Note: there is asynchronous movement of chest and abdomen during inspiration, clinically apparent as "indrawing".
